Police Seizes illegal Cigarettes On Request of a NGO Utprarit
Police in South West District has raided a major cigarette dealer in the Prem Nagar, Uttam Nagar area of Delhi and have seized cigarettes worth lacs of rupees, which were being illegally sold by evading taxes and with false manufacturing addresses. Many cigarettes also did not carry the statutory health warnings. Police have registered a case under the COTPA Act, which makes it illegal for anyone to sell cigarettes with any false information on the packet and also which don’t carry any health warning. The action was initiated on request of a NGO Utprarit, which works for the cause of consumers and provides legal & other support to Indian consumers.
